Surah Al-Alaq Overview
Surah Al-Alaq holds a unique and honored position in the Holy Quran as it contains the very first verses revealed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Initially, only the first five verses were revealed in Cave Hira, Makkah, through Angel Jibraeel (A.S). In the current Quranic order, Surah Al-Alaq is the 96th Surah, consisting of 19 verses, and is part of Para 30 (Juz 30).
Surah Al-Alaq is also known as Surah Iqra, named after its opening command:
“Read in the name of your Lord who created.”
This divine instruction emphasizes the importance of knowledge, learning, and understanding, guided by the mercy of Allah Almighty.

Message and Importance of Surah Al-Alaq
The first verse of Surah Al-Alaq highlights the significance of seeking knowledge with the help of Allah. It teaches two essential principles:
- To read, learn, and gain knowledge, especially from the Holy Quran.
- To seek Allah’s guidance in using this knowledge correctly, as true wisdom comes only from the Creator of the universe.
This Surah reminds believers that education, humility, and faith go hand in hand.

Sunan Ibn Majah
It is narrated that the Prophet ﷺ advised reciting short Surahs, including Surah Al-Alaq, when leading congregational prayers, highlighting its importance and ease.
Sahih al-Bukhari
Hazrat Aisha (R.A) narrated that the first revelation came with the command “Read!”, marking the beginning of divine guidance for humanity.
Sunan an-Nasa’i
The companions of the Prophet ﷺ, including Abu Bakr and Umar (R.A), used to perform Sajda-e-Tilawat while reciting Surah Al-Alaq.
Surah Al-Alaq Wazaif
Wazifa to Convince Someone
Recite Surah Al-Alaq three times before speaking to someone with a positive intention (such as convincing a boss or requesting a salary increase). With sincere faith, Allah will grant success, In’Sha’Allah.
Wazifa for Relief from Worries
If you are facing stress or difficulties, recite verses 18–19 of Surah Al-Alaq, then perform Sajda and pray for ease. Allah will provide comfort and relief.
Wazifa for Arthritis
Recite Surah Al-Alaq seven times after Fajr prayer. Then perform Sajda-e-Tilawat and recite
“HasbunAllahu wa Ni‘mal Wakeel, Ni‘mal Maula wa Ni‘man Naseer”
for 7 days, with faith in Allah’s healing power.
